Hi,

I am a high school student and I am trying to make my first pair of skis. I am trying to make a pair of 166cm park/freestyle skis with a poplar and ash core. The part that I am stumped about is what I want the thicknesses to be. I am thinking about 2-7-2 in thickness, but don’t know if that’s going to be to soft or not. ( I am 145 pounds) I know this has probably been discussed on the forum, but I do not know where to find it. If anybody could give me some input that would be great!!!

I'm assuming you're meaning .2", .7" and .2"? that would translate to 5, 17.8, 5 mm. That seems really thick, most skis are in the realm of 2-3mm tip and tail, and 10-12mm underfoot.

I'm by no means an expert, but a tool that I found really helpful was the Sooth Ski comparison tool. This combined with Junksupply's simulator can give pretty easily allow you to compare your designs with other skis. Soothski shows the EI Stiffness at 5 points along the profile of the ski, which I compared to the simulators stiffness profile.

Sorry seeburglar, I meant 2 millimeter in the tail and tip and 7 underfoot. Thanks for the advice and showing me those two websites! If anybody else has any tips about free ride ski dimensions please let me know!
