Core Design

hi there,
I was looking at other people's design for the skis and found that some of them designed their inner core quite differently.

Most of them, including myself, designed the inner core(wood) to cover the entire length of the ski, while a few of them used the inner core for the centre portion only.

I was wondering if that design will make the ski more prone to breakage due to the lack of support?

And also what advantages/disadvantages does it have by reducing the core material?
