I-Beam Ski Press

Post by dbtahoe »

I have access to some old 4x12 i-beams to build a press. My question is how to use them. Would the ibeams on their side be strong enough for a top and bottom or would I need 6 upright (3 top, 3 bottom). I'm just getting involved in ski building so I want to make sure I give myself a fighting chance but don't need a production level platform.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Doug:

I-beams are not designed to be used side ways, that is, in this configuration: |-----|.

They are designed to be loaded vertically. I would recommend that you use them this way to get the maximum benefit.
