Ski Builder Compatible PID Controllers

Post by dbtahoe »

What other controllers on Ebay will accomplish the same task as the Omron E5CJ used in the article? Is there any difference between C and F other than the obvious?

Thanks for any help.

Search eBay for "pid temperature"

Any of these units for $40 or so are great for our needs. The included thermocouple is not suitable however. Nor is any imbedded thermocouple in your silicone heater blanket IMHO. I simply taped a type K thermocouple from Omega --> http://www.omega.com/Temperature/pdf/5TC.pdf directly onto the aluminum sheet covering my silicone heater blanket. It responds very quickly and my heated ski press is very stable. I post-cure bake at 170 degrees F for several hours. This "kiln" controller works like a champ!

Remember for type K, yellow is + and red is - (here in the USA).

I also used oversized solid state relays, like the 25 amp units also available for about $15 on ePay.

I found a pretty good article on do-it-yourself temperature control.

I bought my PID equipment at from Auber, and they have really good service. They also have plug-n-play controllers up to 1600W :))

Bumping this thread so it is easier to find. Awesome info in the links for building PID controllers. Looks like I'll be throwing down on some heat soon.
