In this topic http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1601 I posted a video about some very old wood skis, used today in central Asia.
I think that, besides the construction method, also the geometry is rather interesting.
The skis have a narrow tip and they get wider at tail. If I remember well, BigKam had a similar idea, maybe a couple of years ago. At that time I tought that this kind of ski could be great for beginners: they tend to lay on the back, especially in difficult snow condictions, but in that way it gets impossible to control the skis.
I had the feeleing that the narrow tip / wide tail design would make possible to control the ski even laying on the back. In this video http://www.telemarktribe.com/it/index.p ... 8&Itemid=1 they indeed ski the narrow tip / wide tail skis with very special stance, sitting almost on the tail of the skis.
New, 4000 years old design
